Leather Bags ‘Bridgerton’ Characters Would Wear Part Five
Bridgerton, the global sensational show, based on Julia Quinn’s best-selling novel, produced by Shonda Rhimes, narrated by Julia Andrews is just “wowed” us, a second time around, with its storyline, “scandals” and of course fashion attire. The utopian Victroian era has us romanticizing farmcore and countrycore fashion, with lacy high-waisted corsets, puffed sleeved baby doll dresses, descant jewelry, outrageous hairstyles, velvet outerwear capes, long ball gown gloves and more which give fashion lovers much needed outfit inspirations, aside from the typical work or leisure wear.
Yes, they have the glamor, the extravagance, and the obvious eye candies but one rare gemstone the show is missing are bags - specifically leather bags! These classic, trendy, timeless fashion staples pieces with its neutral earthy tone colors, will fit right in with the High Regency aesthetics. Crafted with multiple layers of thickness and textures to create a natural resistance to water and retain its strength, sturdiness and durability, which make it an important feature especially those characters who happen to casually slip or fall into fountains and/or lakes.
They could opt for faux synthetic bags but why would they want to anyway? It just ends up snapping, or breaking apart into pieces, staining high quality clothing, discoloring after four uses or transforming into a whole different type of bag than originally purchased for. Plus, they’re way too bougie for that. period. All the Bridgerton characters, especially the Featheringtons, would go over the moon for these Bagwerk bags; if they can invest in superb gowns for all their exquisite tea parties, luxurious debutante balls and affluent equestrianism, they’d proudly Invest in well-crafted leather handbags - they were made for this era! So here’s our take on which purses Bridgerton characters would wear based on their outfits and personality.
We’re capping off this mini series with a woman who needs no introduction, Lady Portia Featherington. Though she’s not the most affectionate or adoring mother to Penelope, she dotes on her two older daughters Philipa and Prudence even though they are dumb, awful and clueless. Like most mamas in high-society London, she just wants her daughters to find and marry a suitable match. Of course, for her, “suitable” really only means “rich.” She’s also known for being one of the most gossipy women in town, we bet that’s where Lady Whistedown comes up with her column ideas and sources.
Never one for an understated look, Lady Featherington stands out with her bedazzled golden gowns sweetheart neckline and showcasing her normal yellow color palette. Miss Lime Puff in Lemon Curry by Aunts and Uncles. It features a main structured squared case with wide opening snap fastener on flap for easy handling, removable and adjustable shoulder strap, complimentary pouch bag, and striped interior lining. Major Disney storylines, such as Cinderella, Rapunzel, or Parent Trap have definitely given stepmoms a bad reputation. Unlike those typical trope-y vicious evil characteristics of evil step-mothers, Mary Sharma shows the bright side of motherhood, regardless of how she became a mom - natural, adoption or in this case through marriage. She’s a woman who loves both of her daughters equally and makes sure they, especially Kate, know and feel it. Not only do we get to see her as a doting mother, we also get a glimpse of her courageousness. She falls in love with Mr. Sharma, Kate’s dad, soon after her parents disowned her for marrying a man who isn’t English nobility and moves to a whole different country that’s far away from home. You go girl!
Like her children, Mary Sharma sticks with pastel blues, lavender and rose tones with beautifully subtle lace designs and minimally embellished dresses to showcase her maturity over her young daughters. We see her pairing well with the Miss Fairy Cake in Caramel by Aunts and Uncles. This clutch features a main oval case with clip lock, multi-purposeful clutch or shoulder bag, vintage pendant detail on chain, white striped interior lining, complimentary pouch and sun-dried tanned premium cowhide leather.
Although we don’t meet the head of the Bridgerton clan, Edmund the late Viscount until season two, we can feel and see that his presence is missed. As we learn, his untimely death was due to a bee allergy which eventually paved young Anthony to become the “man” of the house. Through the short in-between scenes of Edmund we get a glimpse of the love he had for his family and wife, an unconditional love that is hard to live up to.
Like his sons, we see him wearing structured black or dark blue tuxedos with white collared long sleeve tops, and embellished vests. The best matching bag we see him rocking is the Finn in Dark Brown by Aunts and Uncles. This bag features a main case with two snap-buckle, solid adjustable shoulder straps, multicolored interior lining, two front pockets, two large compartments, vintage appearance, and crafted from polished premium buffalo hide leather.
